Sharon Devlin, OPA
A native of Asheville , North Carolina, I am self taught with help from various lessons and artists. My interest in art began in elementary school and has been continuous . I took classes at Kansas City’s Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Later while at Wake Forest University I took classes at University of North Carolina Greensboro. I moved to Virginia Beach in 1968 and continued painting with classes at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Virginia Wesleyan, and local notaries such as Rietha Sedel, Suzanne Stevens, Barclay Steaks Robert Burnell, Charles Kello, Sara Linda Poly, Kay Kendra, Susan Sarbuck and Russian artist Zufar Bikov.
I often begin on a black canvas, inspired by nature and bring light to the dark. I work mainly in oils but also paint in Acrylics, and mixed media. I am currently exploring a technique of painting on copper using oils and gold or silver leaf, combining “pour painting and oils on different substrates. The last few years I have discovered Plein Air painting and have had the luxury of traveling with fellow artist to paint not only locally but across the country. I will continue this endeavor as well as studio painting.
